Opio Provence property
The Opio Provence has a long history and the small village of Opio has remained largely unchanged over time. The village is perched high up in the hills and was once a fortified town, perfect for someone looking for exclusive Provence property. Opio stands in a protected site and is surrounded by beautiful olive and pine trees.
Wandering through the narrow streets of Opio you can't help but feel relaxed and with a population of under 2,000 you often find yourself on your own, especially if you are exploring the 450 hectares of forest surrounding Opio.
As well as the picturesque surroundings there is a beautiful aroma of the roses and jasmine, which are cultivated here for the Grasse perfume industry. The town also produces olive oil at the Grande Bastide olive grove and you can buy some at one of a last few olive oil mills still operating in the region, which dates back to the 15th century.
Opio Provence is such a peaceful setting to spend your time relaxing and enjoying long walks and horse rides. Golfers can enjoy 18 holes at the Bégude Golf Course, whose premises are located in a former château dating back to the 19th century.
The village itself is not far from Nice, Grasse or Cannes, so if you need your fix of the 21st century you don't have to travel far. There is also a modern development that has been built below Opio, which consists of a leisure resort, golf course and shopping complex. This has improved the road layout, so it is now a lot easier to get to and from the village, especially from Nice International Airport which is around 30km away.
Property in Opio ranges from opulent country houses with pools, tennis courts and unspoilt mountain views to 18th century villas and modern day apartments. There's really something for everyone in the Mediterranean gem of Opio Provence.
