It would be incredibly difficult to not fall in love with the beautiful, historic and gorgeously-scenic French Riviera. Visiting the French Riviera means you should expect glorious sunshine, white, sandy beaches, as well as picturesque local markets to engross yourself in the luxurious and very fashionable South of France.
As well as being a popular holiday home destination, the French Riviera has also been home to countless celebrities over the years. Here’s a few of our favourite Celebrity French Riviera homes:
1) Elton John
The world-famous musician and singer, Elton John, has a stunning South of France villa that was originally built in the 1920s as “an artists’ colony”. As well as lavish furnishing from Versace, there are also numerous paintings throughout the villa by artist Andy Warhol.
The lead singer of the band U2, Bono, owns a beautiful and fantastically secluded villa on the seafront in Eze-sur-Mer. The private property is entirely secluded and features its own private gardens and pool. There is also a railway track that heads towards Nice just behind the beautifully secluded villa. Lead guitarist, ‘The Edge’, also bought a luxury property as Bono in the same town. They’re both said to love the laid-back lifestyle away from the public eye. Bono and his wife are often photographed sailing around the area on their luxury yacht with their celebrity friends.
3) Ralph Lauren
The legendary fashion designer, Ralph Lauren has a stunning, luxury home that was originally built in the 1920s by the Compte de Milléant, who wanted to create a prestigious destination close to Nice that was meant to rival the Casion of Monte Carlo. The property was abandoned but the sprawling home was later bought by Belgian Nobel Prize-Winning writer Maurice Maeterlinck. During 1990 and 2008 the estate was open to the public but was then purchased for 448 million euros last year by Czech billionaire Radovan Vitek which has paved the way for its most recent reincarnation as 19 luxury residences, one of which is owned by Ralph Lauren.
The apartments range from 100m2 and 600m2 which cost between 25,000€ and 40,000€ per square metre and features lavish, modern and luxurious interiors with amenities such as private swimming pools, balconies and terraces.
4) Johnny Depp
Although the property is apparently now up for sale, the sprawling estate that is just north of St Tropez- a reclusive celebrity hot-spot of the French Riviera, is still said to belong to Johnny Depp. The estate is being sold for £16.3 million and features 12 original structures that are thought to have been built in the 1800’s, covering 37 acres near the local village of Plan-de-La-Tour. Depp has converted the church into a guest house and has also built a themed wine cellar, restaurant, skate park, two pools and 12 luxury bathrooms.
5) Coco Chanel Estate
In 1928 Coco Chanel purchased a five-acre plot of land in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin for 1.8 million francs and spent the decade following its purchase renovating the building and design of the beautiful home. The seven-bedroom villa La Pausa, was delicately designed and built by Robert Streitz. Chanel spent many of her days traveling back and forth between the estate and Paris to meet with her architect. With fragrant lavender and ripe olive trees blooming in the estates surrounding gardens it is a true heaven.
