On the French Riviera, you’re sure to be spoilt for choice when it comes to celebrating the year that’s been and looking forwards to the year ahead. With glitz and glam everywhere you turn, you’ll be in for a treat if you’re heading to the Cote d’Azur this December. Whether you’re looking for a night with the hustle a bustle, a VIP experience, a cosy villa for you and your closest family and friends or a traditional New Years’ eve feast, there are plenty of options here!
Keep It Traditional
Traditionally in France, you see the New Year in with a huge feast (similar to Christmas Day!), with the likes of smoked salmon, goose, turkey, oysters and a many bottles of the finest Champagne, at midnight you kiss under the mistletoe and wish your loved ones a very happy new year! If you want to enjoy a traditional feast, you can cook it yourself or visit one of the many of fine dining restaurants along the stretch of the Cote d’Azur that will all have especially themed menus just for New Year celebrations, including dancing and other extravagant entertainment.
You can follow the traditional theme into the New Year with the French celebrations of getting the whole family together for a large lunch made up of a variety of sea foods, fresh from the surrounding waters to start the New Year as you mean to go on.
Some of our favourite restaurants for a New Year extravaganza include Joël Robuchon at Hotel Metropole in Monaco, L’Arazur in Antibes, La Palme d’Or at Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez in Cannes, Jacques Chibois at La Bastide Saint Antoine in Grasse or why not try the Le Bistrot des Viviers in Nice.
Celebrate The New Year In Style
It is no secret that the French Riviera is home to some of the hottest nightclubs in Europe, with a variety of chart topping electronic dance DJs in amongst the glitz and glamour, the best parties can be found at Sain Sylvestre in Nice or exclusive entertainment at Saint Endreol Golf Course in Saint Entreol.
Cannes or Saint Tropez really are the places to visit for the exclusive rooftop bars or the cabaret clubs, with all of the glamour of the film industry, you’ll find the best venues, very exclusive guest lists and extravagant entertainment, sure to be a night you’ll never forget.
Fun For All The Family
We understand that as parents, you can’t always celebrate the New Year with late night parties, so whether you have a new born of a teen, there are a number of fun alternative activities you can still partake in.
If your children are old enough to stay awake for the midnight celebration and to see the new year in, you will find a free fireworks display in the Baie de Cannes, you can either find a spot along the Croisette to watch the display or park up at Palm Beach to watch from the warmth of your car. This event holds a different theme each year, accompanied with music and light show too.
Juan les Pins also has a free fireworks display too, however, this is on New Year’s Day so if your children are too young to stay up until midnight, at the bay of les Pins, you will find this display in the late afternoon of 1st January.
Fancy something a little different? Your kids will love heading up to the mountains of Val d’Allos on a torchlight decent with fireworks at the top, alternatively Valdeblore has free horse and cart rides along their mountainous terrain or in Valberg you will find a children’s DJ party and lazer show which is put on in the early evening.
Equally, there is nothing better than staying in, in your luxurious villa with all of your family. Why not dress up this year, create a theme and get the whole family involved, and as your children might not be able to join with other aspects, create some delicious mocktails to make them feel included.
Whatever you fancy, don’t forget to book ahead of time as the Cote d’Azur gets particularly busy this time of year, so you want to avoid disappointment by organising the perfect celebrations, no matter who you are with.
