Nestled neatly into the Mediterranean, the Cote d’Azur is undoubtedly one of the best European hotspots. It is not only the blue skies and beautiful sunshine that entices visitors from around the world – the summer months welcome a season of festivals and celebrations on the French Riviera. Here’s a few of our favourite events that are sure to bring jazz and joy to the Riviera this summer.
NICE JAZZ FESTIVAL – NICE
Each summer brings one of France’s most famous and popular festivals to the Cote d’Azur – the Nice Jazz Festival, which has been held annually on the French Riviera since 1948. Held in Place Masséna, the event is widely considered the most prestigious jazz festival in Europe. This year, the festival will run from the 17th-21st July, welcoming Mary J Blige, Herbie Hancock, Laura Mvula and many more artists to the famous stage.
JAZZ À JUAN – JUAN-LES-PIN
Since 1960, New Orleans sister city, Juan-Les-Pins has welcomed jazz artists since 1960. This summer sees the Jazz à Juan festival celebrate its 57th birthday at La Pinède from 15th-23rd July, with guests including Jamie Cullum, Macy Gray, Tom jones and Buddy Guy.
PANTIERO – CANNES
The Pantiero multi-genre music festival will return to Cannes on the weekend of July 12th 2017. Join in the fun and discover a host of rising stars from the indie, pop, rock and electronica. This year’s line-up features Circa Waves, Twin Peaks and The Soft Moon, among others.
Bastille Day is the name given to the French National Day – or la Fête Nationale. It commemorates the storming of Bastille, a pivotal point in the French Revolution that took place on the 14th July 1789. Every year since, the French Riviera – along with the rest of the country – has celebrated with a wide range of Bastille Day events, from parties and parades, to festivals and stunning fireworks – most of which are completely free of charge.
LES PLAGES ÉLECTRONIQUES – CANNES
Having been an electronic icon for over a decade now, Les Plages Électroniques returns to the French Riviera for the 11th time on the 10th of August. This year, the beach festival is welcoming Carl Craig, DJ Snake, Nina Kraviz and many others to the stage.
